Hello, dear friends list. I am not dead. I am however not even reading LJI've been swept up in consuming many many bits of media. I'm playing Assassin's Creed II (which is a much improved game from the first but, because of emphasis on a strong plot and varied missions, actually lacks the repetitive obsessive do-you-have-a-flag? nature of the first game). Once I beat it I'm considering either the Persona RPGs or a trip back into Sims, depending on what I own and what I have interest in then. I've been reading again, starting with Atwood's new The Year of the Flood which I'm having a very difficult time reviewingfirst reviews after a long hiatus are always tough. (While procrastinating that, I've been rererereading Maledicte, which shall never lose its beauty in mine eyes.) I've been haunting a few image boards, among them 4chan's /y/, and through that have developed a renewed interest in anime. I watched Code Geass, with all its bombast and drama, and did quite enjoy it. While putting off reviewing that I started in on Gurren Lagann, which I am not ashamed to say attracted me because of the wealth of wonderful fanart for it, and that brings us to the reason I started this post. No one is online on IM at 2a, so I had no one else to say this too except all of you:
Gurren Lagann is composed of concentrated awesome. I mean don't get me wrong, I enjoyed Code Geass, but it did not bring out the enthusiastic fan in me until Rolo came along (because he is awesome, in an adorable vulnerable psycho way). But Gurren Lagann has me fanning. I was worried at the beginning, because the show is full of humor and I generally am not, but: The art style. The characters. Viral. Oh god, Viral. It has heart without taking itself too seriously, it has mech drama for fun and profit, and it has my favorite kind of character: a badass with weaknesses. (Viral's is of course that, strong as he is, tough as he is, angry as he is, he is everyone's bitch. He cannot look at someone sideways without ending up on his knees begging them for forgiveness or aid. And he hates every minute of it.) I'm hooked on him, hooked on most of the characters really; I'm enjoying every episode of the show and just had to share.
I'd squee about all of this to someone who cared if there was any such person around, but in lieu of such just count this as a very enthusiastic recommendation of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. For it is fun, addicting, exciting, and goddamn if it hasn't turned me back into a fangirl.
I have posts I may actually get around to writing, soon. Ghost and Aaron fic, perhaps. Book reviews, if I can ever finish them. BPAL reviews, which I really just need to format. But I'm just not around LJ much these days. I'm a dozen types of distracted right now, with all the media I'm consuming and also because things with the boy have been really wonderful lately, so I've wanted to spend as much time with him as I can. So while I'm ignoring everyone's journals, remember I still love you! Really, I do. And I hope you're well. (And I'll reply to your emails soon.) If there's anything you wish I had read, feel free to tell me here. I think I can pay attention at least long enough to read comments.
