juushika: Drawing of a sleeping orange cat (I should have been born a cat)

Since I'd been meaning to do this...

Books. Every book on my wishlist is one that I can't easily get via a library, or have already read, and either way know I want to own—my book wants are rarely frivolous these days. Moonwise by Greer Gilman and The Annotated Alice by Lewis Carroll, ed. Martin Gardner are probably at the top of my list, but I want all out of print Caitlín R. Kiernan.

Video games. I want new copies of Pokémon HeartGold and Dance Central, to make sure I get the Pokéwalker and can import songs to DC2 respectively. I also want Sims 3: Generations and Sims 3: Pets, eventually. But I have plenty more games on my to-play list which I wouldn't mind the least bit used, most of them for the DS: The World Ends With You, the Ace Attorney series starting at the start, Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded, Super Scribblenauts, and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky, as well as any obscure JRPGs that come recommended. ETA: Gimme—I mean, now that there's an English language version, Inazuma Eleven is also high on my list.

Socks, but in particular these socks. I have Rust and love them, and would love Paprika and Moss and Lichen and Carbon and even Blueberry, too (but Paprika most of all). At or over the knee, absorbent (cotton or rayon), solid-patterned natural-colored (but I could make an exception) socks are where I'm at.

Long-sleeved, long-torso'd shirts (probably size medium) with thumbholes. Pullover hoodies in fairly thin fabrics, thumbholes bonus. Armwarmers with thumbholes. Thumbholes everywhere.

Cellphone-style charms to decorate my portable gaming devices. Storebought or handmade, anything as long as it's awesome and durable. Plastic stars are awesome; Pokémon, too—here are some of my favorites, but all I really want for Christmas is.... Cute and 3D and probably plastic preferred.

A menorah. I'm finally getting to the point in my life where I want one for my own home. This is my family's, to which I am greatly attached; I think I want smooth organic shapes and copper or brass tones for my own.

BPAL. My wishlist remains out of date but not useless; I'm also in need of bottles of Dana O'Shee and Plunder. Handmade jewelry in copper or brass, peridot or amber; even better, jewelry designers to eye and lust over, asmy past favorites are going in new directions which are less my style. Serious chocolate: single origin, 75-95% cocoa content, artisan. I love cocoa nibs, too. Ruled hardback Moleskines. Pennies—I collect them. Letters, not gift cards. Good wishes.

As always, my contact info is here (can't see it? want to? just ask).

It's that time of year for a long, hopeful, grabby-hands wishlist. As usual, I don't expect anyone to give me anything, but there are many things which I'd love to receive. Because I will be gone for the week of Christmas, my family is opening gifts on December 8th, the last night of Hanukkah—but I know that this early schedule won't suit everyone, so gifts are welcome at any time. Whether you're sending gifts, well-wishes, or nothing at all, consider posting a wishlist of your own!

Enough talk. More:

Books
As always! My to read list is flooded with books that I can't find locally (either at the library or in stores), which means that my Amazon list is full of much-desired reading material: check it out. I would also love books picked by you for me, even if they're not on my list. I read almost anything fiction, avoiding chicklit and high fantasy, preferring fantasy, science fiction, gothic horror, and classics. Books you love or think I will love will be well loved.

Nintendo DSi XL in Bronze
This beastie right here. Yes, I am finally looking into portable game devices more recent than the Gameboy Color. Devon is already getting me a PSP, but there's a lot of DS games that I long to play—and I need the console, first. Having demoed them in stores, I prefer the cushy oversized XL.

Cellphone-style charms to decorate my portable gaming devices
Storebought or handmade, one or many, anything as long as it's lovely and durable. I've been in the mood for glittery stars, lately; Pokémon would be awesome too (I have a weakness for grass types). I tend to prefer greens and blues, and sometimes coppers and oranges; bright colors would contrast well against the black devices, although my oldschool Gameboy Color is teal. I want shiny pretty cute dangly things to hang from my toys, really—anything goes, everything would be loved.

A subscription to Dofus
MMOs are normally not my style, but I've played through Dofus's free content twice and i adore it—I would love to play more. Unfortunately I can't find an easy way to handle gift subscriptions, but we could work something out!

Cat ears, and/or a cat-eared black hoodie
I'm looking for small, black, realistic, easy-to-wear cat ears, perhaps something like Tachi Ears in black with black fur or Cosworx basic black cat ears, although anything similar—and of good quality—may work. Whoever sent me these, I love you! I would also love a black cat-eared hoodie, but I've never found one I like. I'm in search of something simple, no fake fur, long in the torso, not too bulky, with ears made of the same fabric as the hood. Something like this would make my day.

Over the knee socks from Sock Dreams
I'm looking for basic, solid color, opaque, preferably cotton, over the knee socks in colors like green (olive and lichen, not grass), (dark) blue, brown, (dark) gray, and most of all black. I may even go out on a limb and try a burnt orange or dark purple. I want socks that are fairly stretchy, more or less stay up, breathe and/or absorb well, and above all are comfortable to wear. Something, maybe, like E.G. Smith Solid Over the Knee Stockings, Cronert Cotton Overknee, O Rayons, O Basics, and/or Extraordinary Thigh Highs.

The usuals
Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab perfume: my wishlist is a bit out of date but still relevant. Shinies: there's nothing from my usual designers that I'm currently eyeing, but beautiful peridot, brass, amber, and copper handmade jewelry never goes unloved. Chocolate: single origin dark (75% to 95% cocoa content) is preferred, and I long to try obscure brands, cocoa nibs, specialty bars, or your personal favorites. Pennies: yes, I really do collect these. And above all, good wishes and good cheer. (I'm not that big on gift cards, although they're welcome—but a letter would be loved.)

My birthday is coming up! I'll be turning 25 on August 18th this year. This is not a big deal, but on the off chance that you were wondering what I wanted for my birthday:

Books. Here's my Amazon wishlist, which is fairly up to date. I read almost anything (almost always fiction, never chicklit or high fantasy, often fantasy, science fiction, general literature, young adult literature, and classics, with a particular love of Shakespeare and tiny little subgenres), and always want to read a book which comes with a personal recommendation and plenty of love.

Shinies. Wyrding Studios and Sihaya Designs tend to be my stores of choice, although I've also had my eye on Kendra Tornheim's pendants. I love handmade, organic jewelry. I tend towards necklaces, but wear the occasional bracelet or ring (I don't wear earrings). Peridot and amber are my favorite stones and colors, and I prefer brass and copper metals. This old post is a good introduction to some of my tastes, but I don't have a current shinies wishlist.

Smellies. Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab is my drug of choice, of course. My BPAL wishlist is a little out of date, but it's a good introduction to my tastes. Philologus (ancient books, crackled parchment, faded incense, and candle wax) is currently at the tippy top of my wishlist. The Halloween update, which is traditionally my favorite update of the year, will be a few days after my birthday—so that's when I'll really be making grabby hands. Spending money for the update would make my (birth)day.

I sometimes collect bears (of the teddy variety in particular). I always collect pennies. My body pillow Henry could use a new modal pillow case. I could always use a few more modal shirts. I am a materialistic desirous beastie in many ways, and none of this matters! I don't expect gifts, but would certainly welcome well-wishes. So there you go.

Adopt one today!

Wyrding Studios
I've had my eye on this jeweler for some time, and would love to own a piece or two. I'm partial to the organic shape of the wirework, vibrant but natural colors, and the fact that each piece is unique. Unfortunately there are few currently available pieces which catch my eye, but Wyrding Studios does large custom projects and weekly small custom projects and also provides gift certificates (my paypal is swiftskyes AT hotmail DOT com).

Sihaya Designs Jewelry
This designer caught my eye more recently, but I love what I see. The asymmetrical designs, ornate and delicate detail, and rich natural colors appeal to me. I have my eye on some of her currently available pieces, but she also offers custom work.

My preferences in...
Jewelry Types: Pendants and necklaces. Also bracelets, some rings. (I don't wear earrings.)

Colors and stones: Peridot green (stone and color) and amber (stone and color). Also tiger's eye, petrified wood, blister pearl; shades of black and gray, brown, greens (yellow-green, never blue-green), copper, orange, red, purple.

Metals: Copper, hammered copper, antique(d) brass. Also harvest gold, silver.

I don't like: Swarovski crystals (in Wyrding Studio pieces), fire polished glass, busy wirework with simple gems, very bright colors, too much white and/or silver, charms. Also most faceted stones, labourite.

Some of my favorite pieces. )

My birthday is ten days away: I'll turn 23 on August 18th. Just typing "23" is a bit boggling, to be honest. I'm bad with numbers, and have had a hard time keeping track of even my own precise age for, well, a few years now. By the time I get used to the new number it changes again, and so we go again: 23, when I should be a college graduate heading out into the world of graduate school (more likely, for me) or else actual employment, but where I am instead a content stay at home girlfriend who reads a lot. And writes book reviews.

Not only do I have a hard time remembering my own age, I've never really celebrated my birthday. The day seems vaguely unimportant. It falls at the wrong time of year (I feel like a child of fall, and no one is around in the summer to celebrate), and I'm not too social, and I'm never rich enough to buy many presents for others and so I don't expect to receive too many myself. But I go out to dinner, say, and see my family, and the boy gives me spending money which I funnel immediately to books and BPAL. And then I am a year older.

(Ironically, I love receiving gifts—perhaps because I've never had my own independent income, and so I feel guilty buying things for myself and rely on gifts from others; perhaps because I'm selfish and materialistic. But I've never understood people that don't wish for things, or who are shy about receiving presents. I've always enjoyed receiving gifts. It's an honor and a joy: to be important enough to warrant gift-giving, and to have the chance to enjoy something that I wouldn't have any other way. I enjoy it so much, actually, that I feel ashamed to admit it. It makes me feel selfish.)

My birthday wishlist this year is largely my BPAL wishlist. I long for a bottle of Ivanushka, one of my all time favorite scents, which is a retired LE that will only be available through some collector's sale. I also want bottles of O and Morocco, which I wear all the time but only have imps of, and I'm having cocoa and carnation cravings and want to hunt down some new blends that contain them. Obviously, no one is urged or obligated to send presents, but if you want to: my Paypal is swiftskyes at hotmail dot com and my contact info is here (can't see it? want to? just ask). I'm also open to simple birthday wishes, or letters, or complete silence.

Meanwhile, I plan to buy myself Sharp Teeth and probably a preorder on The Tales of Beedle the Bard, as I have a little bit of money hanging out in my Amazon account and free shipping thanks to my family's Prime account. Devon is preordering Viva Piñata II: Trouble in Paradise, which comes out in September. He's also giving me some money for BPAL: we'll probably put $25 into Paypal so that I can (for a change!) sign up for a Halloween decant circle, and I plan to purchase a bottle of Velvet (since I'm almost out of my imp and love the scent) and one bottle from the Halloween update—I'll know which when the update goes live.

This is hardly the short and simple post I planned when I began writing! Nonetheless.

Meanwhile, I've always known a surprising number of Leos, and all of our birthdays are coming up and passing. To [livejournal.com profile] sisterite, and [livejournal.com profile] raynala, [livejournal.com profile] chaos_current and [livejournal.com profile] assimbya, Max and Cassady, and the many people who share my zodiac: Happy Birthday to us all, even if I haven't made it over to your journals to say so.

    Step One
    - Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.

    - If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.

    - Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, so that the holiday joy will spread.

    Step Two
    - Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:

    - If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use—or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free—do it.

You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf—to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not—it's your call.

There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special."

So here we go! What I want this holiday season (in no particular order)... )

The best way to get in contact with me regarding any of this:

My contact information. (Can't see it? Want to? Just ask.)

Paypal: swiftskyes AT hotmail DOT com.

Do you have a holiday wishlist? My funds are (quite) tight, but I'd still like to gift where I can. Feel free to comment with your list, or a link to your own.
