The Real Reasons to Clean, or: Things I Discovered in My House
  • One 32mb Compact Flash memory card.
This was deep inside my huge padded camera case. I still don't know where the memory card reader or the huge expensive memory card are hiding, but I have a USB cord and now a dinky memory card, so I can take pictures again. Guinea pig spam and hair length update photos are pending.

  • One Starbucks card of unknown amount.
Which is actually left over from last Christmas, if you'll believe it. It has a Christmas tree on it and everything. In my attempts to get out of the apartment more often, Starbucks money is always a good thing.

  • One $50 Amazon gift certificate that had not been redeemed.
I knew I was keeping that around for a reason. I've already purchased Enter Three Witches by Kate Gilmore, which I read and loved as a teen but which is now out of print and I can't get from the library. The book was $0.05 with $3.99 shipping used. Not bad. I'm also building a shopping card for direct from Amazon purchases so that I can buy them all at once and save on shipping. So far I have the complete works of Edgar Allan Poe, because duh, and am looking at The Weirdstone of Brisingamen by Alan Gardner, which I want to read but isn't at the library. I have plenty I want to read, but I'm trying to limit myself to books that are really worth owning or else impossible to borrow.

  • One black Pilot Razor Point Extra Fine pen.
These are the pens that I've been using and killing left and right while writing the novel. I though I only had one left, but it's red and plus it doesn't like me (nib is to dry). Finding this is a tiny blessing, as it is much more pleasant to write with.
It's impressive, really. I moved just a few months ago, and yet there's still stuff in my apartmenty house thing that I didn't remember owning and had misplaced. I think part of it is because I moved so quickly—in about three days from the start to finish—that everything just got slammed haphazardly into boxes and hauled away, and much of it is still scattered just as haphazardly.

That was why I actually started to do some cleaning—to try and find the illusive memory card and card reader which I know I packed, one inside the other, in a blue plastic storage box, and have not seen since.

No writing today, but some good cleaning, and hair washing, and I look beautiful. I didn't go out today, so I dressed in this long white nightgown (old gift from my grandmother that I've never worn) and a lavender cropped embroidered overshirt which cinched the too-big nightgown into a lovely ruffly empire-waist dress and which pushed the white down from my face, thus saving my pale complexion. I rather like it. Might have to take pictures of it, too, while I do hair photos...
