To be fair to Afternoon of the Elves, there is a lot about the houses and they even feel pretty magical, but their reclaimed trash construction was absolutely overwritten in my memory by the kitschy fairy art and molded fairy door decor of my childhood. Which is an aesthetic that I don't even like that much! But I think my memory/imagination turned it into something like "craft cute/store-bought/artisan fairy aesthetic with authentic backyard twigs and debris"--which is probably viable with, like, effort, but was never a project I took on; but it sure captured my imagination.
