All generative AI has the ability to just keep generating but, because of ChatGPT's training data (amount and type), it's very good at remixing essay-style content. RP- and narrative-style models have less but more selective training data and general consensus seems to be pointing to the idea that they're effective co-writers but can't convincingly generate entire works themselves, for a lot of reasons: the bad quality will become increasingly evident; AI can't generally hold a whole story in memory, so good luck with structure.

So it varies a lot! Which ChatGPT is a problematic game-changer, but simultaneously a juggernaut and nonindicative of the full potential of the technology. (Some people use it for RP/creative writing, but it's so heavily censored that it's generally not worth it.)

All of it has ethical concerns, as any technological development does.
