Since everyone has been posting it, and since I do tend to memorize my favorite films: Movie quotes meme. I tried to pick some of my favorite quotes, taken from films I love but which have not showed up already on my flist.

I WILL:
1. Pick 15 of your favourite movies.
2. Go to IMDb and find a quote from each movie.
3. Post them here for everyone to guess.

YOU WILL:
1. Guess the film titles.
2. NOT use Google/IMDb search functions.
3. Tell me them in the comments. Points if you get them first.

1. Underworld, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] honest_illusion.
"You're acting like a pack of rabid dogs. And that, gentlemen, simply will not do."
(Both Underworld and Underworld: Evolution are favorites among myself, Devon, and his brother. They're a bit campy but also divinely sexy, and we watch them a lot.)

2. The Matrix, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] ishmael_.
"How much like it? Was it the same cat?"
(Ok, sure, so it's obscure. But it is actually one of my favorite lines, the whole sequence is, and I do quote it often. I quote the whole movie often. This is probably my favorite film of all time.)

3. The Princess Bride, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] lareinenoire.
"You seem a decent fellow. I hate to kill you."
"You seem a decent fellow. I hate to die."
(I have every single word of this film memorized, and I love the book with equal fervor. Every line in it is a good line, but the fight between Westley and Inigo is one of my favorite parts, and it is so perfectly summarized in this exchange.)

4. Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] celticzen.
"You're supposed to be dead!"
"Am I not?"
(I love all three of these films, but this one most of all. I have it entirely memorized, but so many of the quotes are too obvious. The acting in these lines, however, is stellar. Everyone is wonderful in the film, but Depp succeeds best—Jack Sparrow is what transforms the films from good to wonderful.)

5. The 10th Kingdom, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] celticzen.
"Bacon sizzling away on an iron frying pan. Basted, roasted, toasted. Nibble it chew it, bite right through it. Wobble it, Gobble it. Wrap it around a couple of chickens and am I ravenous!"
(Ok, so it's a miniseries. But everyone, go out and buy it now, and watch it a half dozen times. It's funny and meaningful and magical, wonderfully scripted, and compulsively watchable and memorizable, and if you haven't done both, you're missing out. One of my favorite films, ever.)

6. Hedwig and the Angry Inch, guessed by no one at all!
"I have been having the most wonderful time with — do you remember that 45-year-old divorcee with the hair and the mean look? She came up to me after the show and I thought, 'This lady wants a piece of me.' So I didn't know what to do. I was alone, I had nothing in my hand, I was going to go for the eyes. She came at me from both sides, somehow, and she just gave me a fucking hug. She gave me a fucking hug. Can you figure? Can you fucking beat that? She gave me — also got a few drinks from it, as well."

7. The Nightmare Before Christmas, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] assimbya.
"And now, with your permission, I'm going to do my stuff."
"What are you going to do?"
"I'm gonna do the best I can!"
(So hard to pick a quote for this one! I love them all, but many are too obvious. I chose this because Oogie Boogie is probably my favorite character, and the voice acting on these lines in particular is classic.)

8. Howl's Moving Castle, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] honest_illusion.
"He's calling the spirits of darkness... I saw him do this once before when a girl dumped him!"
(It was so hard to narrow down the anime films! But this is certainly among the best of the best, and is one that I watch most often. It is unendingly magical, and funny, and irreverent, and as always with Miyazaki's work, the heroine is strong.)

9. The Emperor's New Groove, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] circle_of_ashes and [livejournal.com profile] _kasuri_ simultaneously.
"I had a dream that Dad was tied to a log and was careening out of control down a raging river of death!"
(Shame on all of you for not getting this! I quote this film more than any other, my mood theme is TENG, seriously folks, this should have been the easiest. ^_^ Every line of this film is my favorite line, but this was the first that I feel in love with.)

10. Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] assimbya.
"And life is for the alive, my dear, so let's keep living it. Just keep living it! Really living it!"
(Ok, so this is a dupe from my friends list, but I love the movie too much to help myself. The first murders and pies from earlier on are also wonderful, but the fervor of the ending sequence is incredible, and this line is my favorite of that part.)

11. What Dreams May Come, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] static_pixie.
"You don't understand."
"It's not about understanding... it's about not giving up!"

That quote is pretty obscure, so here's another from the same movie:

"Where is God in all of this?"
"Oh, He's up there. Somewhere. Shouting down that He loves us. Wondering why we can't hear Him. You think?"
(The Fountain is similar, both in style and in my love for it, but that film already came up on my flist. The imagery here is so creative and so stunning, and it was what originally made me fall for this film. What has made me stay in love with it for so long is the protagonist's love and acceptance of his wife, in her beauty and in her faults. Its one of the movies that always makes me cry.)

12. Ghost in the Shell, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] _kasuri_.
"The net is vast and infinite."
(I quote this all the time, and no one never knows what I'm talking about. That's a pity, as it's a great quote and a mind-bending film, and after all, it is true! Though not quite so metaphysical, just yet.)

13. Ever After, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] lareinenoire.
"You told me it was a matter of life or death."
"A woman always is, sire."
(While in no ways outstanding nor exceptional, this is a fairytale of the highest quality—because the maiden in distress saves herself. I adore it.)

14. This is Spinal Tap, guessed by no one at all!
"It's like, how much more black could this be? and the answer is none. None more black."

Also from the same film:

"Well, I'm sure I'd feel much worse if I weren't under such heavy sedation."

15. Mr. and Mrs. Smith, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] lareinenoire.
"Mom! We are on high alert here. I almost killed you right then! You do not even realize!"
(This film has a constantly quotable script, and the chemistry between Pitt and Jolie is palpable, and the boy's last name is Smith—ergo, I love this film.)
