juushikaDevon heard back from the owner at 8:30 this morning, and so yesterday's puppies are, today, back home and safe.
It rained last night so the pups got wet when the went out to potty, then they discovered the OMG JOY PLAYTIME of the water dish in their kennel while Devon and I got ready to drive them home—and so in our last moments with them they were damp squirming beauties with huge wet paws that soaked through my jeans as I carried them in my lap on the drive back. It was delightful, and adorable, and they will be missed. Mum was pleased to have her pups home (although there were nine in the litter, so having a pup leave is hardly traumatic at this point). Barn cat was also damp, and happy for some extra snuggles. The roaming chickens were, it turns out, supposed to be penned, and when we arrived about half of them were back in their coop. It seems that the owner was out of town yesterday but got home this morning; the woman who comes to look after the yard is the one on chicken duty, and it's also her task to try to puppy-proof the gate. I hope she succeeds!
