Ghost and Aaron: Master List | Next Update

A few days back, I sat down to rejoin Aaron and Ghost—and everything went to shit. I wasn't really "feeling" their story at the moment—because while things ended well enough last time, Aaron really fucked up and their last argument did a significant amount of damage to their relationship. They're on imperfect terms and have a lot of work to do before things are smoothed over. And these boys are my babies—precious to me and very real, and their uncertain situation was making me anxious. I took them to the park, and they were unresponsive and distracted. I sent them home and tried to get them to start rebuilding lost trust—and they were unwilling to communicate and Ghost rejected all of Aaron's advances (which I was initiating). I felt like shite, quit without saving, and didn't want to try again.

The next day I went back. Aware now of my anxiety and "feeling" their story again, I let them go home instead of meeting at the park after Aaron got off work, and then I sat back and let them do their own thing. At the house, Ghost cleaned for a bit and then played some foosball, because cleaning can put him in a rotten mood; Aaron swam laps in the pool until he was exhausted. And then as Ghost was starting on a new canvas, after Aaron took a quick shower, Aaron went into the back room.

Aaron comes to Ghost
He said hello to Ghost

and Ghost held him close... +23 photos: repairing damage done, ghosts, work troubles, sleep troubles, and love. )

Which is as good a conclusion as any. I could say more, but Ghost speaks for himself.

If you were wondering what was up with my other sims ... well, not a whole lot. As usual when playing these boys, I can't pull myself away from Ghost and Aaron long enough to do much with anyone else. A few pics, though:

As for the promised fic: Since Ghost's dreams are acting up again, I figure the storybit for this time should be on the same topic. Unfortunately this is one of the longer snippets, but the one I planned to share doesn't yet feel finished and the one after that is a bit much sex to jump straight into, so we'll stick with one that at least won't feel out of place. Ghost isn't usually like this—he doesn't swear so often, he's rarely this angry—but he's under trying circumstances. As such:

Storybit 02: Ghost dreams of death.
1600 words
Takes place around the same time as this entry, although the effects are more apparent in this entry.
No romantic content, mention of sex, some violence and swearing.

It's one thing to have a ghost walking around the place, and another entirely to dream about death—but ever since the second headstone appeared in the backyard a week ago, Ghost has. )

Ghost and Aaron: Master List | Next Update

Words cannot even express how happy I am with this update. But first:

Nika, writing
Let us speak of writing for a moment.

I caved and started scribbling down the many bits of Ghost & Aaron story which have been filling my head—because I was afraid of losing them, because I was afraid of being overwhelmed by them, because it seemed inevitable. And behold, a few days later I'm up to just over 10,000 words. These scenes stretch from pre-game events through their relationship now—and depending on how Plot plays out, I think there's scenes brewing for the future too.

I mentioned before how different Ghost and Aaron are from any other characters I've dealt with: they are remarkably real. This has only increased as I write them. It's not creation so much as discovery. With a little bit of time and thought, whatever I look for I can find, whatever I find I can record. I've never had story flow so smoothly, even when writing fanfic. The boys are writing themselves, and I'm enjoying being a part of it, because I find them fascinating and because, however biased this opinion may be, there's some good stuff there.

Knowing I have a few Ghost and Aaron fans reading, and as it seems silly to let story languish unread, I'll probably start posting a random scene with my G&A updates. I've written and may post explicit sex scenes; most of the snippets make reference to or directly concern the fact that the boys are cousins. If either goes against your taste, I suggest you skip the written bits. If you're [livejournal.com profile] vaga42bond, you can break out the horrified emoticons any time now. And of course there's no obligation to read. This is all for my own entertainment. If you do, though? I hope you enjoy. But first: pictures!

Ghost and Aaron
Not a shabby start, right?
This may be my favorite ever photo of the boys.

+31 pictures: ghosts, money problems, arguments, big decisions, and beauty. )

The events in this update were—incredible. I knew what my user-directed stuff would be (repoman comes, Aaron gets a job) but the park bench? the arguing? the expressions? the fact that as soon as I took him to the cemetery Aaron zeroed in on a new bench? all of that was spontaneous, autonomous, and perfect. I've forgotten, playing Nika's household, that these two have such wonderful chemistry in their relationship, their traits, their plot. I don't even want to know what magic variables create it. I just never, ever want it to go away.

And there's something about Ghost, I think. I've learned from writing him that he's not strictly as passive as he seems—and right now, I think he's playing a tricky game, forcing Aaron to the end of his tether to make the boy do something about it all. And he has. It won't be easy for Aaron, though. He has a grudge against authority figures—and even if he'd never admit it, he's afraid of them, too. I doubt he'll find his job easy, but he definitely has the potential to be damn good at it.

In the world of random, unrelated photos, this time I come bearing pictures of Ghost and Aaron's families. I created their parents in CAS in order to get a grip on how they look (I can't visualize, so this is my best way to see them) and to lock in their personalities. No, I'm not playing them. No, they don't live in town. But I did plop them down in a set piece for some pictures, so you get to meet them all.

7 pictures of Ghost and Aaron's family, real and potential. )

Would having siblings really have changed anything for Aaron? I doubt it. It may may have redirected some of the pressure off him—but I suspect it wouldn't have been much better to be constantly compared to the successes of a brother or sister. But, yes, it was an interesting experiment.

I conclude this massive entry with the first bit of Ghost and Aaron written story—which, fittingly, is one of the longer chunks. Enjoy!

Occurs a two years before the start of gameplay. Aaron is 18, Ghost 20, and they're distant friends.
No romantic or sexual content; some foul language.

After Aaron calls, it takes him only four hours to make the six hour trip to Ghost's house. But Aaron calls at almost ten at night, so he arrives late by any reckoning. )

I love people that poke me for more Sims 3 posts. ^__^ And so I present: er, more Sims 3 pictures! Nika's family, mostly focusing on Manson and Matson growing to adulthood, the improving quality of Manson's life, and the ... exciting developments in Matson's. With bonus Nika. (For the curious—Nevera and Dakota are both climbing the ladders to the top of their careers, which is empowering but not quite so photographable.)

Ah, they grow up so fast...

Which is where I left Nika's household, all growed up and on the brink of romance, because it was Sunday and I needed to get over to Ghost and Aaron in time for Monday mail. Big things are afoot for the boys, but I shall still switch periodically to Nika's household, so expect shorter posts more often or in quick succession—because it'll just be easier to chronicle the two stories in separate posts.

Nuthin' too special this time. With a house as full as Nika's a coherent narrative is harder, but I offer what I can: parent troubles, blossoming romance, kids growing up, and a bit of the pretty. We begin with Manson, who has become my unapologetic favorite (other than Nika, of course!):

Manson has taken quickly to the arts.
Manson takes quickly to painting, and only wishes he were big enough to hold his mother's spare guitar.
He is also (and I can't believe I'm saying this, what with my opinion of kids) adorable on his little step stool.

Aaron and Ghost are still in their honeymoon period—they've started leaving the house again, but they are still contentedly and sweetly in love and enraptured by one another.

While the happy days tick by for them, I've been spending time with Nika's household. I'm not abandoning Aaron and Ghost, I'm just entertaining myself and waiting for the next bit of Important Story. Not sure how much of it I'll be blogging but, well, I'm in the habit of pictures now—so we shall see. Anywho! Nika's household...

Nika hanging out with Aaron and Ghost

Was it a fangirl moment? YOU'LL NEVER KNOW.

I am enamored with Nika beyond reckoning. She's part wish-fulfillment (in her semi-self-sim nature) and part simply adorable, from her big head/teeny body to her high voice and random freakouts. I used Awesomemod to load her up with me-traits, so she has quite the personality. (I can remember bookworm, neurotic, hydrophobic, vegetarian, dislikes children, loner, and loser off the top of my head; there are a few more I can't recall right now.) She's wonderful and I want to borrow her clothes and put her in my pocket all at the same time.

+1 of Nika. )

Playing another household has not decreased my passion for Ghost and Aaron. Indeed, I have their whole story panning out in my head—from their family history to how they became friends to how their relationship functions now. This is the first time that I've felt like a conduit for a story—I know it's a common, perhaps even true, cliché to feel like not a story builder but a story teller, but (rabid plotbunnies aside) I've never really felt like my stories or characters were independent entities. With these two, though: given their autonomous origins they've always felt independent—and as their personalities and pasts come alive in my head, that sense of independence continues.

I'm fighting the urge to write fic for them, because it seems silly and out of place (given that their story is told primarily via images), but the urge is there and the story keeps unfolding, unfolding, in my head. So to find a happy medium between the urge to scribble it down and the sense not to, I offer:

Five things you didn't know about Aaron and Ghost. )

So while everything is different now, it's all as natural as can be. And as for my anxieties? Though events and time have not erased them (I never do let go of worry easily), they have at least eased them. I am foolishly happy for my little polygon boys.

Random shots this go around:

Some eyecandy, some humor. )

And I've been meaning for a while to post pictures of the house the boys share—and now that I learned how to change the lens angle in my shots (I are slow learner), that's much easier to do. Ergo:

The one weed-torn lot on an otherwise manicured suburban street, the boys live in Jcperk's Parker Place, a modest but attractive single-story suburban home—which has since fallen into disrepair. The layout and most furniture is as original, but everything has worn through, fallen apart, or quietly gone to seed after significant modding. Their house never could have reached its current condition without Guatla's Paint on Paint wood textures; Cyclonesue's Peeling Paint texture is also a great help (grab it here). All of my pics can be clicked to go through to the Flickr page where they can be viewed in larger sizes—that's especially useful for these.

Just a hug
Just a picture from the end of the day before.

The next day dawns with ghosts and a butterfly +23 pictures. )

Which is where I think I'll leave it for now.

I expected sex this time, I really did—but kept the boys busy and just didn't get around to it. It's odd—and here I ramble and go overly thoughtful considering this started with a video game (and this is massively navel-gazy and TL;DR. I am writing it because I need to screw my head back on straight. I will not be offended if no one reads it.): Some thoughts on the webcomic Friendly Hostility, with spoilers. )

And then here I am telling the story of a couple falling in love, not being in love—with full knowledge that I probably won't continue telling it too much longer after they reach that plateau because what I'm doing is playing a game and the shiny attraction of new sims will pull me away eventually. I find Ghost and Aaron's story fascinating because it is new, semi-taboo, full of waiting and stumbling and nerves—precisely because it is developing, not status quo. But my total anxiety after completely Friendly Hostility has reminded me that a relationship is more than that. Does slashfic, told in pictures or otherwise, necessarily need to be? Of course not. But in my head it is right now very important that Ghost, that Aaron, be more than just two people falling in love because I find it exciting.

On Ghost, Aaron, and the nature of their relationship; on progression vs. platueas; on telling a story. )

So where was I before I slipped down that unending spiral of words? Oh yes, hair! I love the hairstyle that Aaron had (and Ghost still does), but when I stumbled upon this new one I had to try it out. I intended it for Ghost but it looked awesome on Aaron—so I had to get him to the point of New Hair. It's nice to see Ghost and Aaron a bit more physically different but really what it comes down to is oooooh shiny hair. (But what really tickles me about the new hair—other than my outright love for it, of course—is that Aaron was inspired by a guy I know here in the real world and this hairstyle is eerily similar to one he used to have.)

But Juu, you say: We need portraits showing off Aaron's new hair! You never post enough pictures of him! Well, if you insist.

So, perhaps nothing so exciting as a TV fire and if you're not enjoying this romance as I am then it may be a bit boring. But I cannot even tell you how close they came to taking things one step further, this time. It was pretty intense and YES I am a massive geek thankyouverymuch.

Meanwhile: Outtakes and random pretty shots!

An amusing townie, Aaron in conversation, and Nika Sarto, my could-be self-sim. )

Which, yeah, is a bit odd. She was never intended to be a self-sim, and objectively we look little alike. But as she came together—with her red hair and freckles, with her glasses and green eyes, her tiny body and big head, she started to mirror if not my physical self then at least my mental self-image. Things like eye color: I have blue eyes, but all of my avatars and my mental self-image all have green eyes. Why? Couldn't tell you—aesthetics, wish-fulfillment, it's the color I imagine my cat eyes must be—but somehow in my image of self my eyes are always green, 'though my body boasts different. But what really tipped the scales with Nika was her hairstyle—I'd never wear my hair like that, having it so loose and flyaway would drive me crazy, but it hides her human ears and that is a huge part of how I see myself: no human ears, because I have cat ears instead. It's carried over from my militant non-fourear neko identity in Second Life, but is still enough that Nika is the one I've adopted as a sort-of-me. For now, at least.

But goodness do I need to get her a better exercise shirt, if she's going to live in it just like all of my other inactive sims. One day, I shall actually play that household! It's full of interesting folks.

You may also have noticed that Aaron has new piercings. I grabbed an early, still-in-beta set of piercings which are an actual mesh, not painted on. They may not be perfect yet but they're fun to test and still a great improvement. Sure they're in different locations, but Aaron ain't attached to which piercings he has just as long as he has a good few—and poking new holes in his face is fun.

So: pics, of course!

I can't help it if Aaron abhors clothing.

Oh my god, I'm addicted. If you're sick of these posts already, then I apologize for bombarding you flist. If you're enjoying them—well, I have more! Things with Aaron and Ghost continue apace—foosball, kissing, and a little incident with the TV...

Trash talk
Trash talkin' over foosball.
Not that it did Ghost any good—he lost this round.
(Aaron nearly lives in his boxer shorts.)

So begins another few days. +22 pictures, you have been warned. )

And for that matter, I'm tending that way myself. With my mods, the boys have the option to take their romance as far as they want it to go—but there's only so much time in the day around Ghost's work hours (he only works part-time, but may quit anyhow—they can scrape by without the income), and it's easier to splash around in the dingy little pool or play another game of foosball than commit to a relationship. But there is something very sweet about their fumbling advances from friends as close as brothers—into lovers. So for now, I let them set the pace ... but the powers that be have an itchy clicky finger.

Humanizing and obsessing over my sims? You bet! But I've more or less accepted that at this point, these two are telling a story—even if they are just a simulation.

Meanwhile, I also bear pretty and pointless pictures.

To test out some piercings on a wider range of sims, I switched households for a moment (and didn't save after, because I just can't bare to abandon Ghost and Aaron right now)—and went to Tomi's household to find Dominic:

I just liked this shot of Dominic, is all
Chatting to a townie and looking like the handsome devil that he is.

For all my love of Tomi and my fondness for Robert and Jacob's household, I find it's Dominic that I miss playing most. He's not as obviously distinctive but spend a few minutes around him and he's just hilarious. Dominic is a demanding snob with an ego the size of a nation-state and a suspiciously dark heart—and yet he's surprisingly personable and a very convincing flirt.

I've seen him burn waffles to crumbling charcoal, and then turn around and brag to the next passerby about his culinary prowess. I've seen him reject a woman's advances until they shared a long conversation about their shared love for cold hard cash—and then he started hitting on her. I've seen him try to pick up complete strangers, express perfect confusion when they turn him down—and then use another pickup line. He's intelligent and sociable and can't see an inch beyond his own remarkably well-shaped nose, and he is delightful. I miss him.

Oh yeah and he takes pretty photos.

Here, have a pretty shot of Ghost, too. )

You guys have no one to blame for this but yourselves—but after a few folk actually enjoying my Sims 3 picspam, I feel free to post more Sims 3 pics now. ^_^ Mostly, though, I'm posting due to interesting and amusing events. But to begin at the beginning...

With, er, some pretty pictures! No, really, these are just pointless shots that I like but don't make for much in the way of a narrative.

He just keeps growing on me.

Meanwhile, things with Ghost and Aaron precede apace. It'd odd—for a while I was playing with very full households, so there would be more chance of, more variety in, inter-sim interactions. Then I dumped these two in a rundown house with nothing more exciting than a splintered foosball table—and they've proven to be endlessly entertaining. I finally took away almost all their cash (thank you, familyFunds cheat), so they're living off produce from Central Park's community garden and Ghost's part-time job. Aaron could pawn off the goods he steals, but they make too pretty a collection. They've developed a comfortable routine: Aaron makes messes, Ghost cleans them, and they occupy each other's hours in comfortable companionship. So:

Aaron is kind of a dick
We begin our story with Aaron, who is sort of a dick.
He's expanding to petty vandalism as well as petty theft.
Meanwhile, his klepto's trove has grown by a light fixture, flower vase, and second headstone.

+5 more. )

See? Proceeding apace! Ghost got a job, Aaron stole another light, everyone played in the park sprinkler and was happy. And then AwesomeMod updated to support the 1.3 patch, so I downloaded the patch, updated AwesomeMod, beat myself over the head with my computer (the game-breaking problem turned out to be really small and easy to fix, but it was a pain in the ass to find), and then sent out to test the patch. There are reported problems with it, you see, so I figured I'd run a day or three on super-speed, sit back and watch for bugs, and then quit without saving.

Except the following day of complete autonomy was ... interesting. All I did was speed up and slow down time—I didn't even cancel actions. They made food, slept, peed, watched some crappy TV, played foosball, painted, each of the boys hanging out on different halves of the house and killing time. Then Ghost's image popped up on Aaron's queue, so I slowed time down to find:

7 pictures. )

Known issues with the 1.3 patch include everything from disappearing households to freezing and crashing, so there's a chance that the boys may lose all memory of their Very Odd, Unexpectedly Amorous Autonomous Day. But for now I've saved it to a new file and shall see where it goes. I initially had vague plans to leave these two to their own interpersonal ends and decide for themselves whether they were friends or lovers, but the new direction they've taken still came way out of left field. Not that I don't approve (although it is a bit odd to sit back and just watch the game like it were TV ... and still have it be nearly as interesting as player influence makes it), mind, but I am surprised.

So I'm caving a bit to indulge in a perfectly pointless Sims 3 picspam which will probably bore the pants off of the lot of you, since I assume most of you aren't playing. But the game has been keeping me amused for weeks now, and I am compelled to share such joy in the form of silly pictures and mini-stories. The straw that broke my back was the following event:

Because as established I have next to zero self-image (and there's currently no Sims 3 neko custom content), I have precious little interest in creating a selfsim. And yet:

Robert, he of the bleached hair, is a flirt and entirely inappropriate, and so after merely one conversation he set out to kiss: Ghost, of the white hair, a new boy in town and a romantic at heart. I was playing Ghost's household at the time, so all of this caught me entirely by surprise—but not unpleasantly so because I encourage the rampant spread of homoeroticism in my little town.

Robert kissing Ghost, with audience

And on that note: there in the background is Wednesday, who is evil and humorless and generally not inclined to smile, looking on with the most peculiar expression. One might even say: intent. approving. freakish.

And so you see: all of my female sims are selfsims, or at least sisters of the heart. This isn't the first time this has happened, either. I've caught different boys kissing with a different girl smiling foolishly in the background, and it makes me laugh every time.

Robert the rock god
But then, Robert is a rock legend and easy on the eyes.
I guess I can't blame Ghost or, er, their audience.

Just when I thought Sims 3 was starting to grow boring, I finally pulled together a proper neighborhood—about fifteen (and more to come) of my own Sims stretching the length of one street—and again it has come to life. I've started with a new household, and set in a neighborhood filled with sims with vivid personalities and better-than-Maxis appearances makes their story becomes that much more entertaining. And seeing the sims I'm not playing 'round town is like an easter egg every time. To whit:

Tomi, Mouse, and Dominic. )

Before starting this newest household I was mostly playing Robert's, which includes a red-head crazy guy named Jacob who is blatantly inspired by Aikea Guinea's Jacob—and while he is not quite as, er, incredible as hers, he amuses me.

Two pics of Jacob. Beware naked sim bum. )

But my newest household is my current favorite (of course): Aaron and Ghost. They're best friends and cousins who could pass as brothers who live in a cockroach-infested dive which once passed as a modern suburban dwelling. Aaron came together like a dream; Ghost required a touchup from Awesomemod's editsim feature, but it was worth it.

Seven pics of Aaron and Ghost. )

Bored yet?

I'm half tempted to put up Aaron and Ghost the way that I did Tomi, although both use a ton of custom content. If anyone's interested, just let me know. And goodness all, but Sims is crack. I can't even imagine how it must be for core Sims 2 players, with years's worth, a veritable cornucopia, of custom content to chosefrom. As this is my current obsession I've of course been watching CC evolve with the same eagle-eye I developed from my time in the SL fashion scene, and it's fascinating and cruel—because the tools are developing so quickly, so many wonderful goods are already available, and yet ohsomuch is lacking and still to come.

So is anyone else playing Sims 3?

I have disappeared into the ether because Devon bought me a copy of Sims 3 and it has turned out to be addictive beyond all reason. I've not played the Sims since the original game, which had a little bit too much micromanaging for me; I wasn't interested in the Sims 2 aesthetic. But for whatever reason this version has captured me. The game is fairly vast and looks beautiful, and now that custom content is coming out there's a lot of variety for sim creation. (Still not enough for me to create a self-sim, though—but I hope for a day of catparts.) Anyhow, I'm not posting to write a review so much just as to share some pictures and a download, because one sim in particular has proved amusing enough to warrant sharing:

You could call Tomi a deadbeat, but the truth is that he lives more than most folk could dream. He has a child's wide-eyed fascination with the world and plentiful joie de vivre. Sure, he has no ambition and he's not the sharpest tool in the shed—but he is the brightest crayon in the box. Tomi sees life as a game, and he wants to play.

In my game Tomi's turned out of be quite a character. I tend to find him goofing off in front of a mirror, and he's been known to pull the whole household into a rousing time on the swings. (His favorite activity seems to be swinging in his underwear at sunrise.) He makes a good flirt but is too easily impressed with other sims to attempt monogamy. He's generous but not always thoughtful, and he doesn't get along well with everyone. But he's colorful and adorable, and never boring. He may well be my favorite sim thus far.
